Hi and welcome!
As the chilly weather drags on we’re finding a lot of warmth and hope in the work of other solidarity groups: shout out this month to the brilliant Dalston Solidarity Cafe – who also inspired our most recent website update! It’s not completely finished (a few missing links and texts still!) but we hope it explains more clearly what LMA is about and why we’re still committed to this action, a full three years after the pandemic began. We also hope it inspires you to get more involved! Here are some easy ways:
Come to the coffee morning!
The next coffee morning is on Saturday 1 April, 11am to 1pm, at Advocacy Academy in Brixton (5-7 Vining St, SW9). This month we’re going to think together about setting up our own ESOL conversation sessions: if that’s something you would appreciate attending, come help us design them! You can also pick up some of our new flyers to distribute around Lambeth, to spread the word about the fund, and hopefully encourage more donations. As usual, we’ll have drinks, snacks and cash to pay for bus fares.
Help out with the solidarity fund!
The solidarity fund opens at midday, Saturday 25 March and even if you can’t donate to it, you can be part of improving how it’s shared. Lots of people find the application form impossible to use: maybe you have a brilliant new idea for how people should apply? If so, please tell us!
If you want to apply to the fund this month, please make sure you’re ready to fill in the form in this link at midday on Saturday 25 March – it usually stays open for about two minutes before the fund runs out of money! (Apologies again for the technological hitch last month – we hope it won’t happen again!) Please remember that you can only apply for money every two months – and please, only one person apply per household.
Tell us why LMA matters to you!
Whether you receive grants from the fund or donate to it, we’d love to hear from you about why LMA matters to you. Thank you so much to the people who wrote to us last month to tell us: we’re going to be using your words anonymously on social media to encourage more donations. If you haven’t already, please reply to this email with your thoughts.
There is so much we want to do in LMA: connect more with Housing Action Southwark and Lambeth and people fighting so that everyone in Lambeth can have the homes they need; connect more with Lambeth Cop Watch and the necessary movement towards abolition; expand what we’re already doing with the coffee morning to organise communal cooking sessions… The more people who get involved, the more we can do – so come join us!
In solidarity and hope, LMA xoxo
